"OHenry’s was founded on the tradition of quality coffee and community. We look forward to continuing that tradition with Protective, a well-respected local corporation with shared values."

Protective Life Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of OHenry’s Coffee to its Birmingham campus. The addition of the Birmingham-based coffee shop, expected to open this summer, is part of Protective’s campus renovation project, a long-term initiative to further enhance the employee experience and invest in  a more engaging work environment.

“Protective has called Birmingham home for more than 110 years, and we are proud to partner with a longstanding local business, OHenry’s Coffee, to fuel our team throughout their work day,” said Rich Bielen, President and Chief Executive Officer, Protective. “We continually look for opportunities to foster engagement and demonstrate our commitment to our workforce. Our belief is that a relaxed coffee house environment, like OHenry’s, provides a unique, flexible meeting space that enhances productivity and supports the collaborative culture we have built here at Protective. ”

OHenry’s, which opened in Homewood in 1993, has expanded rapidly, with five current locations across central Alabama and a sixth location expected to open at Samford University later this month. Their method of small batch roasting provides a consistent flavor with every cup, thanks to the founders’ shared commitment to sourcing beans from the best coffee farmers around the world – often discovered through coffee travels.

“We’ve been roasting and brewing coffee locally for over 25 years and are excited to become a part of the Protective family,” said Randy Adamy, owner of OHenry’s Coffee. “OHenry’s was founded on the tradition of quality coffee and community. We look forward to continuing that tradition with Protective, a well-respected local corporation with shared values.”

Protective’s Birmingham campus is home to nearly 2,000 employees. The planned renovations which feature upgrades across all three buildings, including workspaces and the café, are rolling out in phases over several years. The renovations will provide more flexible, efficient, and collaborative workspaces to better support employee needs and accommodate the Company's growth. These measures and others reflect Protective’s longstanding commitment to living its values, maintaining a positive culture, and attracting the best talent.

A Birmingham institution for over 25 years, OHenry’s Coffees has expanded from its original coffee shop in Downtown Homewood to locations in Brookwood Plaza Shopping Center, Regions Harbert Center, and Highlands Park, and in September of 2016 OHenry’s expanded beyond Birmingham with a new location in downtown Tuscaloosa. OHenry’s Coffee also operates its own coffee roasting facility in West Homewood called OHenry’s Coffee Roasting Company (OCRC), which is the wholesale and roasting side of OHenry's Coffee. OCRC’s philosophy is quite simple: source the very best beans at a price that benefits everyone along the supply chain. OCRC roasts from a long list of origins, blends, natural (Swiss Process) decafs, Fair Trade, and Shade Grown coffees from up to 25 countries around the world. OCRC’s wholesale customers include other coffeehouses, specialty markets, bakeries, groceries, and offices. While more locations and a much larger roasting business have developed over the years, what hasn’t changed is the legacy given to us so many years ago by OHenry’s founder, Dr. Henry Bright: a building is only as good as the foundation it was built on. For more information, visit
