Mike Temple is Executive Vice President, Finance and Risk for Protective Life Corporation. He joined the company in December of 2012. Mr. Temple’s current responsibilities include enterprise risk management, product actuarial, corporate capital modeling, treasury and finance activities for Protective. Mr. Temple has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer since 2012.
Prior to joining Protective, Mr. Temple served as Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer at Unum Group in Chattanooga, TN. He has more than 30 years of experience in a variety of capacities in the life and health insurance industry, with the most recent seven years as Unum’s Chief Risk Officer. Before assuming that role, his focus was improving Unum’s financial performance in the large case segment. He also led re-pricing initiatives for the company’s disability segment, as well as product development for annuity products.
Mr. Temple was a founding member of the North American Chief Risk Officers Council and currently serves on the Global Risk Management Committee of the American Council of Life Insurers as well as the Financial Services Roundtable, Chief Risk Officers Council. He is also a member of the American Red Cross, Alabama Region Board.
He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.
He graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University.
